Linear Regression on the TI-83

  1. Clear all plots and graphs
  1. Press 2nd Y= (STATPLOT)
  2. choose 4 (PlotsOff)
  3. PlotsOff should appear on your homescreen. Enter and Done will appear
  4. Press Y=
  5. Clear any equations in Y=
  1. Enter the data
  1. Press STAT
  2. Choose 1 (Edit)
  3. Clear L1 and L2
  4. Enter the input (x, manipulated, independent) values in L1 and the output (y, responding, dependent) values in L2.
  1. Set up graphs
  1. Press 2nd Y= (STATPLOT)
  2. Choose 1
  3. Use the cursor keys and enter to highlight: On, Type:Scatterplot, xlist:L1, ylist:L2. Use any mark you like.
  1. Graph Scatterplot by pressing ZOOM then choosing 9 (ZoomStat)
  2. Find regression equation
  1. Press STAT
  2. Cursor right to CALC
  3. Choose 4 (LinReg)
  4. LinReg(ax +b) should appear on your homescreen.
  5. Press 2nd 1 (L1), comma and 2nd 2 (L2). This step is optional for L1 and L2, but it is needed if using other lists, so it is good to get into the practice.
  6. Enter and the values for ax + b are displayed
  1. Place the regression equation in y=
  1. Press Y=
  2. Press VARS
  3. Choose 5 Statistics
  4. Cursor right twice to highlight EQ
  5. Choose 1 to copy the regression equation into Y=
  1. Graph by pressing ZOOM and choosing 9 (ZoomStat)
